Why do you think the way you do? Why do you feel the way you feel? And how do thoughts, feelings, and behavior influence one another?

MindMatters is an in-depth lesson program for curious, cognitively advanced, and gifted students in upper elementary, grades 3–6.

Across 10 interactive lessons, students explore their inner world. They learn to recognize thoughts, understand emotions, listen to signals from their bodies, and discover ways to deal with stress, perfectionism, overstimulation, and difficult emotions.

Through discussion, creative activities, reflection, and mindfulness, students develop greater self-awareness, resilience, and emotional skills.

MindMatters – Exploring thoughts, feelings, and actions

Children think all day long. They make plans, ask questions, worry, dream, and analyze. At the same time, they experience all kinds of emotions: happiness, tension, frustration, pride, uncertainty, and sadness. For some children, this can lead to a busy mind, where thoughts can be difficult to quiet.

But how often do children actually learn to understand what is happening in their minds and bodies?

MindMatters is an in-depth lesson program in which students explore how thoughts, feelings, and behavior influence one another. They develop language for their inner experiences and learn to understand themselves better.

The program is especially well suited to curious, cognitively advanced, and gifted students who benefit from meaningful conversations and opportunities to explore personal development in greater depth.

What will students learn?

Throughout the lessons, students explore:

  • the difference between thoughts, feelings, and behavior;
  • what happiness really means;
  • how helpful and unhelpful thoughts affect them;
  • how they can find calm when their thoughts feel overwhelming;
  • how to recognize the signals their bodies give them;
  • how stress develops and what helps them recover;
  • acceptance and self-kindness;
  • when to persevere and when to let go;
  • empathy, connection, and understanding others.

Active, exploratory, and meaningful

MindMatters is not a collection of worksheets or theory-based exercises.

Students explore their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences through:

  • class discussions;
  • philosophical questions;
  • creative activities;
  • reflection activities;
  • mindfulness and relaxation exercises;
  • collaborative learning.

This creates space for meaningful conversations and personal growth.

Designed with cognitively advanced students in mind

Many cognitively advanced and gifted students think deeply about themselves, others, and the world around them.

They may be particularly sensitive to perfectionism, worry, overstimulation, or intense emotions.

MindMatters gives students space to explore these experiences, put them into words, and develop skills that support well-being and resilience.

Ready to use with minimal preparation

Each lesson is fully developed and follows a consistent structure:

  • check-in;

  • lesson activities;

This makes it easy to start using MindMatters right away.
